SUMMARY:Fundamentals of Oncology for Health Care Professionals
DESCRIPTION:This course is for all heath care professionals working within paediatric and adolescent haematology/oncology who not have a degree or advanced level oncology qualification. \nWhat you will learn \n\nAn understanding of the nursing care needs of patients with haematology/oncology conditions\nA basic knowledge of haematological disorders and solid tumours\n\nThe nurses role and management of: \n\nFebrile neutropenia\nBlood products\nNausea and Vomiting\nTumour Lysis\nSupportive Care\nSymptom Management/Palliative care\nSupport for children\, young people and their families\n\nBasic Knowledge of the different treatment modalities and their side effects:  \n\nChemotherapy\nRadiotherapy\nStem Cell/Bone Marrow Transplant\nImmunotherapy\n\nTo complete this course you will be expected to attend both days and to complete a competency framework in practice.  \nPlease note this booking is for both days of the course:  \nDay 1 – 4th August 2025 \nDay 2 – 5th August 2025 \nIn line with current trust guidance relating to COVID-19 you will need to complete a health screening questionnaire prior to attending. It focuses on the diet-related myths surrounding cancer but also explores other current nutrition topics. \n\n\n\nStart: 09:00\, 09 July 2025 \nEnd: 16:30\, 09 July 2025 \nPrice: £150.00 \nEvent: Study day \n\n\n\n\n\n\nCancer myths around nutrition are increasingly common with the growing use of social media and more awareness surrounding the impact that nutrition can have on cancer prevention\,  care and treatment.  Understanding the beliefs\, they are founded on\, and the interpretation of the information presented can be difficult for patients\, their families\, and the general public.  It is important for healthcare professionals to be able to interrogate these claims\, to help people to understand if they are valid\, and to navigate their impact on people’s physical and psychological wellbeing.  This day explores some of the common nutritional topics that patients raise with dietitians and other health professionals. It will explore the relevant evidence base and whether there is any merit to the claims being made.  How to approach discussing these topics with patients and their families will also be covered as part of the day. \nThe study day is aimed at dietitians\, nurses\, doctors and other health care professionals working  with cancer patients.
